TERREQT
Capture territory by winning squares and building the strongest board position.
HOW TO PLAY

OBJECTIVE

Capture territory by winning squares and building the strongest board position.

When every square has been occupied, the winner is determined in this order:

  • Largest rectangle
  • Most rectangles
  • Highest point total

If either player's points reach ZERO at any time, that player immediately loses.

ATTACKING A SINGLE SQUARE

To attack an opponent's square that is NOT inside a rectangle:

How to Attack

  • Own at least ONE square.
  • Tap the opponent's square that you want to attack.
  • You must have points greater than or equal to the value of the square being attacked.

Successful Attack

  • Gain points equal to the attacked square's value.
  • Your playing piece replaces the opponent's piece.

Failed Attack

  • Lose points equal to the attacked square's value.
  • One of your occupied squares is captured by your opponent.

If your points are reduced to ZERO, you immediately lose the game.

ATTACKING A RECTANGLE

To attack an opponent's rectangle:

How to Attack

  • Own at least ONE rectangle.
  • Tap any square inside your opponent's rectangle that you want to attack.
  • You must have points greater than or equal to the value of the attacked square.

Successful Attack

  • Gain points equal to the attacked square's value.
  • Capture the attacked square.

Failed Attack

  • Lose points equal to the attacked square's value.
  • Lose one of your own squares from your largest rectangle.
  • The lost square is captured by your opponent.

If your points are reduced to ZERO, you immediately lose the game.

COMPUTER ATTACKS

Occasionally the computer attacks one of your occupied squares.

You may choose one of two options.

REPEL

Spend points equal to the value of the attacked square.

The computer immediately suffers the normal failed attack penalty.

FACE CHALLENGE

Attempt the challenge yourself.

Success

The computer's attack fails.

Failure

The computer captures the attacked square and all normal attack rules apply.

POINTS

Points are extremely valuable.

They determine:

  • Which attacks you are allowed to make.
  • Whether you can repel computer attacks.
  • The final tiebreaker if rectangle sizes and counts are equal.

Always protect your point total.

WINNING THE GAME

The game ends when one player can no longer be overtaken, or when all squares have been claimed.

1. The player who has the largest territory wins.

2. If territories are tied, the player with the most rectangles wins.

3. If rectangles are also tied, the player with the highest point total wins.

4. If a player's point balance is reduced to ZERO, that player immediately loses the game.

The game may therefore end before every square on the board has been claimed if the winner can be mathematically determined.
